Get Inspired by Wild Creativity at the Montshire

Norwich, VT – Got a problem in need of a solution? Ask yourself, “What would nature do?”

Don’t miss Creatividad Silvestre | Wild Creativity at the Montshire Museum of Science this summer, a dynamic limited-time exhibition that looks to nature for inspiration in order to solve human engineering challenges. At its core is a powerful question: What would nature do?

On display from May 18 to September 7, 2026

Through a series of hands-on activities, visitors will learn about the principles of biomimicry, how nature works in unique, sustainable, and efficient ways—and how engineers have applied those same principles to design the world around us. Wild Creativity spotlights the interplay between the art and science of nature and how it continues to inform our human world. This exhibition is presented in both English and Spanish.

How does a kangaroo gain energy as it bounces? Why do birds have different beaks? How does a prairie dog cool its home? What do hedgehog quills and cat paw pads have in common? The answers to these questions just might hold the key to human problem-solving, from creating safety cushions to generating electricity!

Wild Creativity provides poignant and powerful learning opportunities for children and adults to see themselves as designers and engineers. From creating energy with hand-made kites to directing light using prisms, visitors will recognize that they do engineering all the time in their daily lives! And when we help people see themselves as engineers or inventors, we also illuminate the careers in science and technology that drive innovation in the 21st century.

Creatividad Silvestre | Wild Creativity is generously sponsored in part by Mascoma Bank, Adimab LLC, GEOKON, Inc., Thayer School of Engineering at Dartmouth, Chroma Technology Corporation, and Velcro Companies.

This summer’s exhibition was conceived of and developed by the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI) in partnership with Adelante Mujeres, the Biomimicry Institute, and The Fleet Science Center. The development of Wild Creativity was made possible by a grant from the National Science Foundation.
