Breathe Deep, Relax, and Play in New Forest Exhibition

Norwich, VT – Nature lovers and those who like to wander have a new discovery waiting for them in the woods of Norwich, Vermont at the Montshire Museum of Science. Timber Tumble, is a new forest escape that invites visitors to take a nature break, explore and play among the trees.

This one-of-a-kind exhibition opens to the public on Saturday, September 21, and features a variety of interactive sculptures shaped out of wood, stone and other natural and found materials sourced from the Montshire’s 110-acre forest property.

The exhibition is nestled both in the trees and along the forest edge, and features a series of hand-made and rough-hewn switchbacks, spiral columns, raceways, and ball runs designed to engage the senses and encourage calm.

“Our talented team is excited to invite people to experience the forest in a new way,” says Lara Litchfield-Kimber, the Museum’s Executive Director, as she drops a wooden ball into a rock-lined channel. The soft “clink-clink-clink” of a wooden ball hitting the stone is core to the Timber Tumble experience. “This exhibition encourages a sense of calm and invites genuine mindfulness moments that are so important in our fast-paced world.  Tune into the sounds, the textures and even the smells.  These spaces have an almost transporting effect that lets your mind wander and your body relax.”

Timber Tumble opens at the Montshire on Saturday, September 21st, 2024. There are photos associated with this press release here.
