Science Camp-In

Spend the night at the Montshire! You'll have the Museum all to yourselves with our supervised overnight Camp-In program for kids ages seven and older. Arriving at the Museum after an early dinner, campers rotate in small groups through the following activities:

StarLab — View the night sky in the Montshire's inflatable planetarium.
Evening Walk — Discover the Museum's woodland trails with a guided walk.
Science Discovery Lab — Capture the joy of science discovery using everyday materials.

The activities are followed by a light evening snack. Campers then drift off into sleep in our large, carpeted Community Room. In the morning, following breakfast, the campers head out to explore some of the trails with a self-guided nature hike.

Fees: $37/child and $32/adult, with a minimum group fee of $825. The Montshire reserves the right to combine groups.

StarLab

This portable planetarium system brings the stars, planets, and galaxies to life at your school using a variety of carefully designed programs for all ages. With only one class under the dome at a time, students become engaged in learning about the night sky. Your Montshire astronomer-in-residence will spend one hour with each class (up to five classes per day). StarLab fits in gyms, cafeterias, or any other large room with an 11-foot ceiling. For grades 1-9.

Fee: $700/day, plus $0.55/mile round-trip for travel.

Science Explorations

Bring a Montshire science specialist to your school for an entire week. This program begins with a workshop for the school faculty, after which we will teach hands-on science lessons in your classrooms for five days (up to four lessons each day). Each participating teacher chooses one topic area to be taught in their classroom, such as light and shadow, mechanics and simple machines, chemistry, or properties of air. For grades 1-6.

Fee: $2950 plus travel expenses for a five-day residency. Other options and fees are available based on length of residency and needs of school. Please contact the Montshire Education Department for more details at 802-649-2200.
