The Chen Family – Carey, Melissa, Myles (2.5 yrs.) & Mason (newborn)

How are you connected to the Montshire?
We became members a few years back.  After realizing how much we enjoy it, we have decided to become Donor-Level Members this year.

Why do you choose to be involved?
We know that the Montshire will provide a tremendous educational experience for our children as they grow, but right now it is just plain fun for our toddler.

When was the first time you came to the Montshire?
The first time we visited the Montshire was during an Employee Appreciation night for  Hypertherm employees 4 years ago before we had children.

What is your favorite exhibit?
Andy’s Place certainly ranks among one of our favorites (the play area for children 5 years and under and their care providers).

What do you wish everyone knew about the Museum?
The environment encourages hands-on interaction in addition to all of the interesting things to see.  Telling your kids not to touch things (like in many public settings) is not the primary concern.

Is there one word you would use to describe the Museum?
How about two words? Totally Awesome (parents have ties to California – can you tell?).

What do you wish we could do more of in the future?
It would be great to change out or rotate the exhibits more often for those of us that attend frequently (almost weekly).

What do you find most rewarding about visiting the Montshire?
The Montshire is a tremendous resource, especially in the winter, for young kids to get out of the house and have a place to learn while having fun.

What is the best kept secret at the Montshire?
The Montshire is a social resource too.  Since many of Myles’ preschool friends go to the Montshire, the parents have an opportunity to hang out with each other while the children are having fun.

What is your favorite Montshire story to tell?
When Sonic Sensation was on display over the summer, we encouraged our toddler son, Myles, to visit the scream chamber.  We figured it was better for him to “belt it” out in a sound proof chamber than at home!  In fact, we would install one at home if we knew how…

Which other museums do you enjoy visiting?
We also enjoy the Hood Museum of Art at Dartmouth College and The Children’s Museum of New Hampshire (Dover, NH).
